Beer continues to flow after flushing the dispensing system

After cleaning and flushing the dispensing system, an automated tap may no longer close properly. As a result, beer continues to flow from the tap.

Written by Bram Sol

What causes this problem?

During cleaning, the service technician loosens the ring at the front of the tap and removes the plunger from the tap. This allows the beer line to be flushed, for example using cleaning sponges.

After flushing, the plunger and the other components are reinstalled. During this process, the rubber sealing ring on one of the outlet tubes may shift or may not be positioned correctly.

As a result, the outlet tube cannot be fully closed. The automated tap then fails to close properly and the beer continues to flow.

How can this problem be prevented?

When reinstalling the plunger and the outlet tubes, check that all rubber sealing rings are positioned correctly.

Reinstall the components calmly and carefully, allowing approximately 3 to 5 seconds between each step. After reassembly, always test whether the tap opens correctly and closes completely.

What should I do if the beer continues to flow?

  1. Turn off the CO₂ supply.

  2. Carefully loosen the ring at the front of the tap using pliers. Place a cloth between the pliers and the ring to prevent damage.

  3. Carefully pull the relevant outlet tube out, little by little.

  4. Check whether the rubber sealing ring has shifted or is not positioned correctly on the outlet tube.

  5. Return the sealing ring to the correct position.

  6. Carefully reinstall the outlet tube.

  7. Tighten the ring at the front of the tap securely.

  8. Turn the CO₂ supply back on and check whether the tap now closes completely.
