Replacing Bag in Box (wine)

When should you use this?

Written by Bram Sol

Use this article when a wine pack, also known as Bag in Box, is empty and needs to be replaced.

Important

The connection, also called Vitop, works with a click system.
Do not twist or force it. Always disconnect and reconnect it in a straight motion.

Steps: disconnecting the old Bag in Box

  1. Stop dispensing
    Close the wine tap.

  2. Disconnect the coupling

    • Hold the plastic connector

    • Press the release

    • Pull the coupling straight back

    Please note:

    • Do not twist

    • Do not pull at an angle

  3. Check
    The packaging closes automatically
    → no leakage

Connecting a new Bag in Box

  1. Place the new pack

    • Place it firmly

    • Open the cardboard packaging completely

  2. Check the tube

    • No kinks

    • Hanging neatly downwards

    Extra important for automatic systems:
→ Check that the tube is not folded at the back

  3. Connect

    • Remove the protective cap

    • Push the coupling straight onto the connection

    • Wait for a clear click

No click = not connected properly

Flushing the system (mandatory)

  • Dispense a small glass of wine

  • Remove air from the line

  • Check whether the wine flows properly

Common mistakes

  • Twisting the coupling instead of pulling it straight back

  • Leaving the tube kinked

  • Not flushing the system → air remains in the system

  • Connecting at an angle → no click

Quick check

  • Wine flows without interruptions

  • No leakage at the coupling

  • No visible air bubbles

→ The system is working correctly
